چکیده

Recent investigations in this laboratory (l-3) have shown that appreciable quantities of the methyl group ingested in the form of methionine are oxidized to carbon dioxide. Inasmuch as the methyl groups of methionine, choline, and betaine are directly or indirectly interchangeable in the animal body, it is evident that the methyl groups supplied by choline and betaine, indeed by all “biologically labile” methyl compounds, can likewise be degraded to carbon dioxide and water. However, the experiments with methionine provide no information concerning the oxidation of the methyl group of creatine, since the methyl group of creatine does not participate in transmethylation reactions (4). A direct test of the susceptibility of this methyl group to oxidation was therefore desirable. Creatine and creatinine containing Cl4 in the methyl group were synthesized and administered to rats in doses of 1.1 to 1.4 gm. per kilo of body weight. The expired carbon dioxide was collected and examined for the presence of radioactivity. The amount of Cl4 excreted in the urine and feces wm also determined.

Serum Enzymes Studies in Scorpion (Hemiscorpius lepturus) Dose Related Envenomation in Rabbits

Hemiscorpius lepturus is medically important scorpion species present in the south and southwest part of Iran, causing morbidity and mortality in children and adults. Unlike other scorpions studied so far, the venom of H. lepturus is highly cytotoxic, that can be a reason for its complexity in clinical manifestations in patients stung by this scorpion. Scarce studies showed the mechanism invol...

Antivenom injection time related effects of Hemiscorpius lepturus scorpion envenomation in rabbits

Hemiscorpius lepturus is the most dangerous scorpion species, endemic in Khuzestan province and other southwestern areas of Iran, causing morbidity and mortality in children and adults. The efficacy of the antivenom for reversal of manifestation caused by venom of this scorpion is a controversial issue. In the present work, H. lepturus venom (1500 µg/kg) was subcutaneously injected into two ...

Clinical, hematologic, and biochemical findings in cattle infected with lumpy skin disease during an outbreak in southwest Iran

This study was performed to determine the clinical, hematologic, and biochemical findings in animals affected with lumpy skin disease (LSD) in southwest Iran. Sixty cattle with LSD were included in this study and compared with 20 healthy ones as the control group. The disease was diagnosed based on clinical examination and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction analysis of the blood samples. Th...
